Coordinated by the UAB, the Network is funded by the Department of Research and Universities from the Government of Catalonia and will carry out projects related to valorisation and transference of research results in accessibility to information and communication

The board of the Accessibility Innovation Network of Catalonia: Media, Education and Culture (AccessCat) has met for the first time to formally establish itself. This network is comprised of 12 research groups from 8 institutions and brings together 75 researchers.

The coordinating entity is the UAB, who participates with the research groups TransMedia Catalonia and AFIN. The other participating entities are from the UB (with the research groups CliC and DIDPATRI), the UPF (with the research groups GTI, TALN, and TRADILEX), the UPC (with the research group QURBIS), the URV (with the research group ReLaTe), the UOC (with the research group (NODES), the UVic-UCC (with the research group TRACTE), and the i2Cat Foundation (with the research group MiA). Lecturer Anna Matamala, researcher from TransMedia Catalonia at the Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies at the UAB, is the director of the Network.

From 1 January 2023, and for a period of three years, the AccessCat Network will work to become a benchmark in information and communication accessibility, especially in the fields of culture, education, and media, and it will promote transference and innovation activities.

Some of the planned activities are: creating a portfolio of services offered by the research groups within the Network, offering training on information and communication accessibility to companies and external entities, as well as holding activities, demonstrations, or showcases that help raise awareness and suggest solutions in the field of accessibility.

The Network will offer support to its members to find disruptive solutions for issues related to accessibility, to raise awareness on accessibility, to internationalise research, and to participate in international missions, fairs, and transference events.
