The new groups do interdisciplinary research on the social, political, and ethical intersection with technology and science.

AccessCat’s board welcomes the research groups STS-b (UAB) and DiCode (CITM-UPC) to the network. After having formally signed the AccessCat agreement, members of these two group will have full rights to participate in all activities, meetings, and calls directed at AccessCat members.

Below, you can find out more about each group’s work in accessibility to information and communication.

  1. STS-b (Barcelona Science and Technology Studies group), Autonomous University of Barcelona, explores the interaction between science, technology, and society, with a particular focus on technologies developed by and with marginalised communities, such as people with intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions, young people, and older adults. The group’s research focuses on how these technologies influence opportunities for autonomy and participation in these communities. STS-b works on studying meaningful forms of participation for people in these contexts, exploring new spaces for dialogue and the co-production of knowledge between users and experts, both in technological development and in advising on the definition of public policies.
  2. DiCode (Digital Culture & Creative Technologies Research Group), Image Processing and Multimedia Technology Centre, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, is an interdisciplinary research group operating at the intersection of social sciences, technology, engineering, digital product design, and the arts. Framed within applied research, the group focuses on studying the specificities and design of new formats, content, and emerging experiences in digital communication from a critical and theoretical perspective, artistic creation, and empirical study, to analyse the social impact of these technologies on society. Additionally, it seeks to promote the field of technological accessibility, particularly in the area of user experience.
