The TransMedia Catalonia researcher introduced the ENACT project and its goal to make mass media more accessible.

How many people don't understand the content of news programmes? It is estimated that at least 20 per cent of the population presents reading comprehension problems. These figures range from people with intellectual disabilities to the elderly, as well as new speakers of a language. Easy news can be considered an opportunity to both reach new audiences and guarantee the universal human right to information.

However, real-life implementations are still limited. Thus, the ENACT project (in which the research group TransMedia Catalonia is involved) aims to foster collaboration across borders to explore how easy news could be developed on the internet, radio, and television in order to achieve a more diverse and pluralistic media environment.

Anna Matamala, researcher at TransMedia Catalonia, participated in the 41st Annual Conference held by CIRCOM (European Association of Regional Television), which took place in Barcelona on the 22nd and 23rd of May and was hosted by 3Cat, regional broadcaster in Catalonia and an affiliated entity of the AccessCat Network. During the presentation, Matamala clarified some key concepts around easy-to-understand language and introduced the ENACT project. You can revisit her talk on the CIRCOM YouTube channel.
