Service for the evaluation of technological products, whether digital or physical (websites, apps, interfaces, devices, assistive robots...), to ensure these solutions are accessible, efficient, and tailored to the needs of specific user profiles (persons with physical, sensorial, or cognitive impairments, neurodivergence, age-related functional loss, depression, children, etc.).

The service includes:

  • Usability review
  • Review of the compatibility with assistive technologies
  • Identification of barriers and potential opportunities
  • Assessment of the usage context and inclusive impact
  • Final report with results, diagnosis, and suggestions for improvement

Depending on the needs, the following is offered:

  • Advice to institutions, entities, and companies on incorporating the most suitable existing market solutions (apps, interactive systems, self-service terminals, digital displays, etc.).
  • Advice to technology companies to improve already developed solutions, as well as support with implementing the changes.
  • Advice to technological companies on creating new technological products.
  • Implementation of participatory design processes for the co-creation of new technological products.

As a key tool, the evaluation is performed based on the direct experience of the technological product’s end users. It combines technical knowledge with a social perspective: it focuses both on the technical aspects of the technologies and on user experience, emotional impact, and the social connections the technologies create.

The methodologies used, rooted in social psychology and universal design, include observation, ethnographic work, and participatory activities that connect engineers and developers with the end users.

The research group STS-b combines academic rigour and social commitment with extensive experience in the evaluation of technological products for inclusion, which results from:

  • In-depth and practical knowledge on specific groups and how to work with them.
  • An interdisciplinary team of social scientists (clinical and social psychology, sociology, communication and media) connected to the field of technology and engineering, with the ability to offer tools to engineers and developers to ensure their solutions work for everyone.
  • Proven experience in implementing and conducting participatory processes.
  • Proven experience in projects related to health and care.
  • Credibility and neutrality as a university research group, independent from purely commercial interests.
