Centre de la Imatge i la Tecnologia Multimèdia - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya

Groundbreaking laboratory dedicated to evaluating user experience, with a particular focus on accessibility validation. Located at the Image Processing and Multimedia Technology Center (CITM - UPC), it offers a controlled and technologically advanced environment to validate digital services and products, offering the possibility to use support technologies and receive expert advice. It is a key tool for institutions and businesses that prioritise  people-centric responsible digital innovation committed to universal accessibility.

The space is comprised of two defined spaces:

  • Test room equipped with room microphones, projectors to create an immersive atmosphere, and lighting and camera controls.
  • Observation room for real-time monitoring by design, development, or research teams.

The laboratory is equipped with an eye tracker (device that analyses eye movements) and a substantial selection of assistive technology for accessibility projects that may be used during the evaluations:

  • Completely customisable robust joystick
  • Finger control lever that is progressive, very sensitive, and customisable
  • Small circular push button, Specs switch
  • Dual switch for the tongue, chin, or cheek
  • Clevy keyboard with large keys, colour-coded for ease of use, and resistant to liquids and repeated keystrokes

The laboratory team, specialised in video games and creative digital technologies, offers expert advice on UX evaluation methodologies, user-centred design (UCD), universal design, and digital accessibility. The team also offers support for training and research.

Moreover, UXLab acts as a bridge for the educational ecosystem at CITM, offering access to students from the Video Games, Animation, and Digital Design and Multimedia Technologies programmes, a highly homogeneous user profile which is valuable for conducting studies and tests.

The DiCode research group offers solutions stemming from a multidisciplinary group of specialists in video game design and development, animation, audiovisual narratives, digital art, artificial intelligence, electronics, programming, and immersive spaces.

It has collaborated in several studies and tests (play test, card sorting) with companies in the video game sector, offering advice, methodologies, and logistical support, all with highly satisfactory results.
