The network took part in the World Summit on the Information Society (held this year from 7 to 11 July in Geneva) with several presentations and an information stand.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is an event organised by the main UN agencies (such as ITU, UNICEF or UNESCO, among others) with the aim of promoting global digital cooperation to build inclusive, people-centred, and development-oriented information and knowledge societies.

The AccessCat Network, a member of the ITU (the UN telecommunications agency) through the UAB, which coordinates the network, attended the summit once again this year with several activities:

  • Throughout the summit, members of the network’s Executive Committee hosted an information stand to present and explain, in an international setting, the network’s work in knowledge transfer and research into accessibility to communication, information, and education in Catalonia by its various research groups.
  • On 7 July, researchers Anna Matamala (TransMedia Catalonia), Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia), Estel·la Oncins (TransMedia Catalonia), Mireia Farrús (CLiC), and Mar Gutiérrez-Colón (ReLaTe) took part in the session “Media and Education for All: Bridging Female Academic Leaders and Society towards Impactful Results”, a round table discussion that explored female leadership in research through media and education-related projects that contribute to building an inclusive society aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as ENACT, MOSAIC, InclusiVRity, and SCRIBAL.
  • On 8 July, researcher Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia) took part in the session “Leaving No One Behind in the Citiverse”, focusing on sustainable, accessible, and inclusive smart cities, alongside international speakers.
  • On 9 July, researcher Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia) attended the Giga Connectivity Forum 2025, dedicated to the modernisation and digitalisation of schools to improve and facilitate access to education, during the session “The Digital Imperative: The Critical Role of School Connectivity”.
  • On 9 July, researcher Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia) also participated in the AI for Good conference, taking place from 8 to 11 July alongside WSIS. She spoke in the workshop “AI & Virtual Worlds: Building the Cities and Governments of Tomorrow”, in the segment focused on the metaverse, smart cities, and ethical AI.
