From 6 to 10 July, the network and its researchers will be in Geneva to take part in two simultaneous events: the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and AI for Good.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and AI for Good are two parallel events organised by leading UN agencies (such as the ITU, UNICEF and UNESCO, among others) with the aim of ensuring global digital cooperation to build inclusive, people-centred and development-oriented information and knowledge societies. The AccessCat Network, as a member of the ITU (the UN’s telecommunications agency), is returning for the fourth consecutive year with a range of activities:
Session 155: “Accessible Digital Educational Environments: Transferring Research Knowledge”
Educational environments are increasingly shaped by cultural and linguistic diversity. Migration, internationalisation, multilingual communities and digital learning environments have transformed learning spaces into diverse communication spaces. At the same time, inclusion and equitable access to information and communication remain central challenges in the information society. This round table explores how accessible and inclusive technologies, methodologies and solutions can strengthen equitable digital learning environments.
Participants: Blanca Arias-Badia (TraDiLex), Floriane Bardini (TRACTE), Sergi Grau (Digital Care), Gemma Barberà (LSC Lab), Estel·la Oncins (TransMedia Catalonia).
Date: 6 July, 10:00–10:45

Session 285: “AI and Virtual Worlds: Examining Governance Structures and Emerging Challenges”
As artificial intelligence and virtual worlds become increasingly integrated into the global digital infrastructure, governance and safeguards have moved to the centre of policy debate. This round table examines the current state of AI governance frameworks across different jurisdictions and explores unintended consequences arising from existing regulatory approaches.
Participants: Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia), Paola Cecchi-Dimeglio (Harvard University), Marielle Reints (Elastic), Peter Kamminga (JAMS), Jonathan Duffie (Amazon).
Date: 7 July, 10:00–10:45

Session: "AI and Audiovisual Accessibility for Digital Inclusion"
AI presents many opportunities while also posing significant challenges, particularly for people with disabilities. This session addresses the challenges of developing AI-based systems to improve audiovisual accessibility in ways that are safe, ethical and respectful of fundamental rights.
Participants: Anna Matamala and Estel·la Oncins (TransMedia Catalonia), together with members of Swiss TXT (an organisation affiliated with AccessCat), among others.
Date: 7 July, 16:30–17:00
Workshop: "Embodied AI for Multimedia Technologies: From Perception to Human Collaboration"
This workshop explores how embedded artificial intelligence (EAI) can support inclusive, humn-centred multimedia applications. The session approaches the topic from multiple perspectives, including technical aspects and the role of standardisation, through contributions from researchers, industry experts and policymakers.
Participants: Anna Matamala (TransMedia Catalonia), together with members of other organisations.
Date: 8 July, 09:00–12:15
In addition, several members of the Executive Committee and researchers from the network will be present at WSIS with an information stand to showcase, in an international setting, the network’s knowledge transfer activities and research on accessibility in communication, information and education in Catalonia carried out by its groups.
