PREP 5 consisted of two days of debate, reflection, and the sharing of experiences among professionals, experts, and educators in the field of heritage education.

On 9 and 10 October, PREP 5 was held at the Museum of the History of Catalonia, organised by the research group DIDPATRI (UB). These two days served as a meeting and exchange point for experts, aimed at promoting dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of experiences and methodologies among professionals in education and heritage.

In essence, PREP 5 aims to highlight the ability of heritage to generate shared knowledge, to connect people and territories, and to foster a more critical, inclusive, and context-rooted education. Thus, one of the thematic lines explored during the event was accessibility to heritage.

Researcher Andrea Granell, from the Network, facilitated the session “Accessibility and Inclusion in Heritage Education”, during which she discussed revising the physical accessibility of heritage facilities, as well as sensory and cognitive accessibility for understanding the content of the exhibition. The debate also touched upon the need to include accessibility in evaluation processes, to train professionals in this field, and to involve all types of users in participatory processes in order to receive specific feedback on diverse needs.

Moreover, during the event, the group DIDPATRI made the infographic “More Accessible Museums and Heritage” available to attendees. This document, funded by the AccessCat Network, includes recommendations and tools for applying current accessibility regulations in museums and heritage facilities. It is a useful resource for these events, and it has been explicitly designed for this specific type of attendees: professionals in the field of heritage who are interested in facilitating access to culture.

In summary, the research group concludes that the results have been highly positive. At PREP 5, it not only carried out pedagogy and knowledge transfer in areas such as accessibility to heritage, but it also discussed, from a practical perspective, how to implement these accessibility needs.
