These courses have been developed by the Network’s research groups and focus on digital accessibility and Catalan Sign Language.
Discover the MOOCs (massive online open courses) developed by researchers from TransMedia Catalonia (UAB) and LSC Lab (UPF), based on their research. These courses are online, free, and available on all platforms (computer, mobile, tablet...). They focus on accessibility from two perspectives:
- MOOC on digital accessibility, by TransMedia Catalonia. Mainly focused on accessibility in multimedia and multiplatform environments. It is divided into four units: accessibility in general, subtitling, audio description, and sign language.
- MOOC on Catalan Sign Language by LSC Lab. This course delves into Catalan Sign Language and the culture of Deaf communities. It corresponds to the initial content in the A1.1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The content is adapted to the needs of users who have no prior knowledge of sign language.
These courses are significant because, as researcher Pilar Orero from TransMedia Catalonia explains, “accessibility is a human right”, and society in general must be aware of the technologies and tools that ensure audiovisual content is inclusive for all types of users.
The MOOCs do not intend to replace formal or non-formal training. As researcher Cristina Gelpí from LSC Lab explains, these courses are an introduction in order to spark interest and promote accessibility: “we want to encourage more people to try Catalan Sign Language, to get hooked, and to continue learning it.”
You can find the courses in the AccessCat catalogue, together with other technologies, services, and educational resources on accessibility to information and education.
