Barcelona’s Education Fair (Saló de l’Ensenyament) celebrates its 34th edition. The AccessCat Network will be showcasing technology and accessibility solutions on the 27th of March.

The Barcelona’s Education Fair (Saló de l’Ensenyament) celebrates its 34th edition from 26 to 30 March in the Fira Barcelona Montjuïc venue (Avinguda Maria Cristina, Barcelona). The fair will feature 200 exhibitors, including all Catalan universities, technical schools, higher artistic studies, language courses, sports education, and research teams.

Specifically, the research teams will have their own space, called “EspaiCiència”, where they will be able to showcase the research and innovation conducted in Catalonia. The AccessCat Network will participate alongside researchers from CLiC (UB) on 27 March, from 4 to 6 pm, with the activity "Accessibility in the classroom: When hearing is a struggle":

  • Automatic speech recognition systems allow us to convert spoken content into text, effectively acting as "transcribers" for the speaker. Beyond their practical use in everyday applications, these transcribers enable the conversion of a teacher’s explanations in the classroom into written text. For individuals with hearing impairments, this can be an essential tool for following a lesson. At EspaiCiència, the research group CLiC (Centre for Language and Computation) will showcase the tools they have developed in this field, along with the reverse tool: speech synthesis, which automatically reads out text and can assist those with difficulties in reading or speech production.
