Activities

The AccessCat Network and its members organise and participate in different types of activities and actions.

Some activities are addressed to the public—such as awareness-raising activities, demonstrations, showcases, and some training activities—and some actions are carried out within the research groups—such as international missions or standardisation activities.

Awareness-raising Activities

Activities organised by researchers in the network in order to spread their knowledge on accessibility to society. The goal is to raise awareness on how important it is for everyone to have access to communication and information, as well as to offer innovative solutions.

International Missions

Activities abroad through which researchers in the network acquire new abilities and knowledge that will help them transfer their specific research to society.

Standardisation

Researchers in the network participate in drafting regulations, standards, or high-level documents in European and international bodies (ISO, UNE, ITU, CEN, EBU…) to ensure accessibility is taken into account in public policies.

Training

Capsules or training sessions on accessibility to information and communication geared towards companies, institutions, and entities. There is also training for researchers in the network on how to evaluate and transfer research results.

Support for Disruptive Solutions

Contest addressed to researchers in the network to fund and support innovative proposals that find solutions to issues related to accessibility to communication and information.

Demonstrations and Showcases

Activities held by researchers in the network at fairs, congresses and conferences to show the technologies and services created by the research groups.

Researchers Estel·la Oncins and Sarah McDonagh, from the TransMedia Catalonia group (UAB), are taking part in this year’s edition of ICCHP, an international conference on digital inclusion and accessibility, with a presentation on user-centred design in artificial intelligence and digital environments.

Practical training to learn how to present research at trade fairs and networking sessions. It will explore what needs to be taken into account before, during and after events. Training aimed at researchers from the AgriTech, Xarfa, Xartec Salut, AccessCat and RDI-IA networks.

The New European Media (NEM) is a telecommunications technology platform that meets annually at the NEM Summit to set strategic agendas in the sector. This year, several researchers from the network will take part again.

The TransMedia Catalonia research group will take part as experts in communicative accessibility in various events of the AI for Good congress, a global forum dedicated to AI with social impact.

The AccessCat Network, together with researchers from the TransMedia Catalonia, TraDiLex, TRACTE, Digital Care and LSC Lab research groups, is taking part in WSIS 2026, a high-level event co-organised by several UN agencies (such as the ITU and UNESCO).

Researchers Anna Matamala, Pilar Orero and Estel·la Oncins (TransMedia Catalonia) are participating in Working Group 21, within Question 1/21. This meeting will enable progress on the work items the group is collaborating on, relating to standards in sign language and accessibility terminology. They have also collaborated with the affiliated organisations 3Cat and SWISSTxt.

This training session provides an in-depth look at the Industrial Doctorates programme, a three-year doctoral contract within a company, organisation or institution. This contract enables research to be carried out and real solutions to be developed with direct application to the market, while also allowing organisations to integrate into their teams a direct link to innovation and university research.
